City fans thought that Grimsby's Phil Jevons had signed for them earlier today.

His photo appeared on the official City website, spraking reports on Sky etc that he was coming to City on loan.

Grimsby had to quickly issue a statement saying that this was not true...it was an error by PTV, the NTL company that do all the boring official club sites. Serves them right for using shoddy portals and all the same templates.

Jevons, a scouser who used to play for Everton has been given the heave-ho by the fishy people and was apparently crap last season as Grimsby couldn't hack it in the 1st division, so it's probably a good job he's not on his way.
