  ..About The LCFC List

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there was a guy called Ol Penney who hung around in the newsgroup rec.sport.soccer, winding up our "friends" from Shaggerland and Dogstoilets.

Ol introduced people to the then embryonic mailing list - about a dozen or so addresses that you cut and paste into the "Send" box in your e-mail package, and through this we shared our thoughts on Leicester City and generally put the world to rights.

As time went by, the list of names grew and grew until somebody (For the life of me I can't remember who - if you drop me a line, then I'll see that you get the credit you deserve!) set up an automated mailing system - send your missive to one address, and it was forwarded to everybody on the list. A year or so after this was set up, the server we were using couldn't handle the amount of mails so Mark Tanser helped set us up at ecafe.org where we resided until very recently. The server was getting very old and sometimes wasn't very reliable but we struggled on until we heard that it was about to give up the ghost completely.

In November 2000 we moved to eGroups and although we haven't reached the record number of around 200, we have got well over 100 members on the list. Every one of them a fan of Leicester City and living as far afield as Japan, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Competitions and such like (Quizzes and Prediction Leagues) soon followed run by members of the list and now open to readers of Forfoxsake.

The list has in the past sponsored Brian Carey and David Nish. The money for this sponsorship was raised by genuine fans holding a collection and contributions came from all over the world.

For the user, one advantage of the mailing list over the "official" chat site is that, unless you're using a HotMail account (or similar), you can connect to the 'net, download all the messages, and then disconnect to read them at your leisure; You don't have to keep paying telephone charges whilst you're reading!

The ecafe list was administered for many years by Keef (Kovver) Goodall until FFS back-room boy Ste Chater took it over in its dying days. The eGroups version of the list has Bob "WRONG" Wood pushing the buttons.

Interesting List Facts

The list currently has 145 subscribers from all over the world.

The list has housed such great celebrities as Steven Keller, ex-City goalkeeper Kaseys cousin and FFS's very own media star Geoff Peters.

Long before kids started sending strange messages to each other on mobile phones, the lists very own Soad invented his own language. Try and understand it at your peril!

There are rumours that Alan Birchenal, Gary Lineker, Emile Heskey and Rusty Lee have all been on the list at some point!

FFS was only ever possible because the LCFC List brought people together.
