New Director - a woman!!! & Sir Rodders to step down (14/02/02)

Leicester City today announced the appointment of a new non-executive director...a woman at last!

No jokes about the offside rule please. It's about time, seeing as City has more female members than any other club in the Premier League.

Brigid Simmonds has been a City fans all her life and worked in central Governemnt, as well as holding lots of jazzy titles and posts in sport. All the details about City's newest director is on the official site.

The news comes at the same time that Sir Rodney Walker announced that he is to stand down as Chairman of the PLC in August.

Sir Rodney said on the official site: “I have made the difficult decision to stand down as Chairman and non-executive director in order to concentrate on my other business commitments and responsibilities and in particular the new Wembley National Stadium."

Current director Greg Clarke will become the non-executive Chairman of Leicester City Plc. John Elsom will remain Chairman of the Football Club.

Greg Clarke, 44, has been a non-executive director of Leicester City Plc since December 1999. Mr Clarke is currently Chief Executive of ICO-Teledisc, a global telecommunications operator, is also a member of the board of BUPA Ltd and Chairman of Eteach Ltd. He was formerly Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless Communications Plc.
