.Is 'Arry a bit of a dodgy geezer?! (04/10/01)

FFS and City fans are receiving large numbers of comments from Happy Hammer fans warning us to stay clear of Harry Redknapp!

FFS has no idea if there is any truth in any of it, but here are some of the comments we have been seeing.

Why you don't want Redknapp as your manager, from a Hammer.

Dear Foxes, You may be wondering why I am, as West Ham suppoerter writing to your site. The reason for this is for those of you who feel Harry Redknapp is the right manager, let me introduce a fact or two:

-It is rumoured that Redknapp signed a deal with Bournemouth, whilst at West Ham, as a feeder club. This was because Bournemouth were heavily in debt (and still are) and this meant they could off-load players to us no problem.

-The tale of Scott Mean:- here is an injured player who hasn't played in several games for Bournemouth, yet, somehow, Harry signs him up for a fee that was in the region of £250,000 (if not more). Why buy an injured player from a 2nd Division team?

The same as before: it was to help Bournemouth out with debts. Mean didn't play no more than 10 games for the Hammers - well worth the fee! He also re-signed Steve Jones from them for a rather excessive fee to help them "financially"

or how about this...

Dear all true Leicester City fans...

For god sake do not appoint Harry Redknapp as your new manager, if you value the future of your club.

I am a lifelong West Ham supporter and everyone 'in the know' at Upton Park knows why he was kicked out of the club.

It was nothing to do with management style, results or a disagreement with the board or players. His sacking came as much a shock to Harry Redknapp as it did to most West Ham fans.

The real reason he was kicked out was that the West Ham United plc Board discovered the secret % he took from the Rio Ferdinand transfer to Leeds United. It is widely understood to be 11% of the total transfer value (a value no less than £1.9mm).

The money was apparently paid as soon as the deal went through along with 50% of the fee to the club. When the balance was paid, the Inland Revenue as a matter of course, queried the total amount paid from Leeds Utd and the discrepancy arose.

At first the club were accused by the IR of incomplete tax returns, but after pleading their innocence they realised money *had* gone elsewhere. It was then the board discovered through contacts of a particular agent Redknapp and Lampard Senior used frequently and had known for years from their time at Bournemouth, how the Ferdinand deal (a British record of £18m) had been agreed.

Redknapp's sacking immediately followed and Lampard went after him. At the time most of us though that it was strange that he had been sacked so close to the end of the season, with matches still to go. As soon as teh last game had been played, Frank Lampard Junior followed very soon afterwards when, although he was not implictaed at all, the atmosphere towards him from certain Directors at the club became very hostile.

With this is in mind, I would advise you to steer clear of Redknapp (and Lampard from that matter). No one knows the true amount he secretly profited from our club in the past, but this deal is surely cannot be the end of it. I wouldn't want him to profit from any transfer deals at the expense of your club either.

Our differences aside, crooks like him and Lampard should be run out our beautiful game. A concerned friend.

Here's another...

HR was consistently talking up the price FOR Rio. Just after turning down £15M for him he was quoted as saying "it would be difficult to turn down £18M, effectiely admitting that if they offered that amount it would be accepted... As for him taking bungs, it definately would not surprise me, the guy was a wheeler dealer who enjoyed taking chances, especially with other peoples money.

And another...

I don't believe for a moment that Harry was as honourable as this makes him out to be. If this were true he would have stood his ground over the Rio sale and resigned... he was a top bloke and a real gent, but his dealings in the past have always been dodgy... It goes deeper than just Harry's eye for talent...money was involved and Harry had his fingers in too many pies and got burnt.

All nonsense? Any proof? Harry, want to give your side of the story?! Mail us if you know any more!
