  .. Absolutely shocking - City 0 Bolton 5 (18/08/01)

After all the hype, after all the talk, after all the promises from Peter Taylor that this season would start differently than the last one finished, City got comprehensively beaten today in what could turn out to be the worst City game of all time.

Even though City chairman John Elsom managed to give a good account of himself on Sky's Soccer AM show his prediction of finishing around 7th in the league not only looks impossible at the moment, it looks laughable after this performance.

Even the fireworks before the game (Which I missed-Ste) seem like an empty gesture after the 90 minutes that followed.

The signs were there from the very first kick of the game when Bolton had an early chance but fortunately nothing came of it. City then went onto put some good passing football together until the 15th Minute when Kevin Nolan caught Frandson's cross and sent the ball looping over Tim Flowers.

Just 15 minutes later Bolton capitalised on a mistake by Gary Rowett when he failed to deal with Ricardo Gardner's throughball which left Michael Ricketts open to hammer the ball into the top corner.

A Third for Bolton followed just 5 minutes from half time when a long range free kick Bergsson flicked on the ball from a free kick and an unmarked Nolan hit home for the second time.

But the first half was not yet over for Bolton who used the added time to get another goal when Frandson scored an easy goal from a free kick that merely rolled across the floor and into the back of the net.

The second half was much more subdued goal-wise with City following the old advice of trying to win the second half when you have been well whooped in the first.

After Taylor made three changes at half time, Lee Marshall, Junior Lewis and Arnar Gunnlaugsson coming on for Callum Davidson, Dean Sturridge and Ade Akinbiyi with City's Captain Matt Elliott being moved up front.
City came out stronger but by my calculations it lasted less than 5 minutes before Bolton were back into the swing of things completely cutting through City's newly formed midfield.

It was a sign of just how bad the game was when City's usually loyal fans were leaving at half time with the Kop almost deserted by the end.

Luckily though there were still quite a few fans left to see the nail in the coffin when Frandson scored from a 25 yarder.

City's players, already booed at half time, were again booed off the pitch at the end with City's fans making it known to Peter Taylor just who they blamed for today's shambles.

Rumour has it that Peter Taylor may not be around much longer. We can only wait and see.

Leicester: Flowers, Rowett, Davidson (Marshall 45), Sinclair, Elliott, Impey, Izzet, Savage, Wise, Sturridge (Gunnlaugsson 45), Akinbiyi (Lewis 45). Subs not used: Royce, Benjamin.

Bolton: Jaaskelainen, Whitlow, Bergsson (Marshall 75), Warhurst (Southall 75), Hansen, Frandsen, Gardner (Pedersen 66), Nolan, Ricketts, Barness, Charlton. Subs not used: Banks, Holdsworth.

Should Taylor go? Is this a warning for the future? Did you goto the game? Do you want your money back? Tell us your views in the Fans Forum.
