  .City beat Southend 2-1 (26/07/01)

Here's the brief match report by Lynn last night...

"Only a few hundred City fans travelled to see result 2-1 to City. One of the dirtiest "friendlies" we've seen! Yes, all Sarfend fans now hate Sav and Wisey. Let's just say that if it had been a Prem game with a good ref there would have been a few yellows and reds. Both sides. Penalty on each side, Sarfend's was never one in a zillion years.

Akinbiyi looked amazing. Lost loads of weight and turned what was left to muscle. Fast and strong. And as Bob says, "improved first touch...it only goes 3 yards instead of 5". And a good quote from Phil "His first touch was great...until he trod on it." But he tried hard and has obviously been working like mad. Some great stuff from him. Him and Deano were fast and getting into the right places.

Walker has a silly hair cut. Jonesy has had his done the same. Guppy has a skinhead!!!! Marshall still can't cross a ball, Arnie and Sav missed sitters, Lewis still looks like Bambi on ice, Matty won everything in the air, Muzzy looked great, Rowett scored a wonderful header, they all look fit and fast and ready to go and Dennis Wise was awesome. He is going to be amazing for us. Even if he's such a dwarf he makes Muzzy look tall. What a pleasure to watch. A Sarfend player tried to break his leg at one point. Anyone else would've been carried off...Wisey hit the floor and was up and psychotic faster than is humanly possible! Quite bonkers.

Can't say I was inspired to think that we're going to win the league, lots of signs of the crap from last season I'm afraid again, but today was no poncey stroll in the park type friendly...they were up for it and wanted to win. and we had nice fish and chips, and got home by midnight."
