  ... City Masters Beat F*&%$£ (01/07/01)

Leicester City's masters came second in their group in tonight's Midlands event in Nottingham, missing out on a chance to go through to the final.

The Stan James Masters tournament was held at the Nottingham Ice Rink and carried live on Sky Sports TV. City had F*&%$£ and the Sheep in their Group. In Group 2 were Villa, Cov and Ipswich.

Tournament holders and favourites, F*&%$£, suffered a surprise defeat 4-1 in their first game to the Sheep Shaggers, Derby.

Leicester, managed by the Birch, had a lacklustre first game, despite a great goal from Garry Parker, and lost to the Sheep 2-1.

Birch put 7 players on at one point in an attempt to score, despite only 6 being allowed. Unfortunately referee Steven "Wiggy" Lodge was on the case and blew up to get one of our players off the pitch.

Derby had therefore already qualified for the final so City were playing F*&%$£ for pride in their 2nd game. Wiggy Lodge allowed a F*&%$£ goal despite it being a handball and City's heckles rose.

As Birchy was ranting on the touchline about how his lads had been training all year for this tournamnet and were going to be robbed, Garry Parker equalised, shutting Birch up and making him suggest he should be the coach driver rather than the coach.

With seconds to spare, and the crowd counting down, Alan Paris booted the ball at goal. It hit the underside of the crossbar and went in, with Tommy Wright following up to make sure and try and claim the winner. 2-1 to City, leaving them 2nd in their Group.

Cov met Derby in the final and Cov won 3-2.

Ipswich, honorary Midlanders for the night, made history by being the first team never to score a goal in a masters game. They didn't score in either of their games!

Lots of ex-City stars on show including Phil Gee, David Speedie, Kevin Poole and David Lowe.

Losing to the Sheep? Should Birchy get the sack as Master's Manager?! Tell us in the Fans Forum.
