  ..Getting to Watford

BY CAR: From All Directions, M1: Exit M1 at junction 5. At motorway roundabout follow signs to `Watford Town Centre A4008' onto the Stephenson Way dual carriageway. After 0.6 miles take slip road (s/p Watford Town Centre, Bushey, Oxhey A4008) to bypass roundabout. At Waterfields roundabout after 0.9 miles go straight on (s/p Watford Town Centre) onto Beechen Grove. After 0.2 miles, by `Trewins', all traffic turns left (s/p Ring Road A411) onto the Ring Road. Keep in lane for `Ring Road, West Watford' and after 0.4 miles turn left (s/p Hospital Watford General, West Watford, Northwood) into Vicarage Road. After 0.1 miles all traffic turns left into Merton Road. Immediately get into the right-hand lanes and turn right (s/p Rickmansworth, West Watford A4145) into Farraline Road. Immediately get into the left-hand lane and turn left (s/p Rickmansworth, West Watford A4145, Watford General) into Vicarage Road to ground. Tip: If lost pick up signs to Watford General Hospital, which is right next to the ground in Vicarage Road.

Visiting fans are now being directed to park in the town centre multi-storeys, or in the official and unofficial car parks off Vicarage Road. The town centre car parks charge 2 for four hours, 50p after 7 pm. However, finding a space could be a big problem at Christmas, when football fans and shoppers are both out in force! The parking on Vicarage Road is at the Watford Grammar School for Girls (2 blocked in, 3 not blocked in!), at the Laurence Haines School, and in Willow Lane by the General Hospital. Street parking is very limited indeed. One of the best areas to try is south of the ground, on Eastbury Road or the streets off Deacons Hill.

FROM RAILWAY STATIONS: a) Watford Junction: 1.2 miles. By train: Local trains to Watford High Street Station run every 20 minutes, 1.20 return. By taxi: About 3. By bus: No. 11 runs hourly to Vicarage Road. By foot: Follow pedestrian signs down Clarendon Road. After 0.4 miles, head straight over lights (s/p Service Road A) passing the theatre on LHS. At T-junction by the Cheltenham and Gloucester, turn left into the High Street. Turn right in front of the NatWest Bank into Market Street. Straight over crossroads by Hay Rood Catholic Church (s/p Vicarage Road Stadium), remaining on Market Street, and at T-junction by `Ebb Tide Restaurant Fish `N' Chips' turn left into Merton Road. Cross road at pedestrian crossing into the Vicarage Road Precinct. Straight over crossroads by the `Joy Garden' Chinese takeaway into Vicarage Road to ground. b) Watford High Street station (stopping train from Euston to Watford Junction): 15 minute walk. By foot: Turn left out of station and left along main road, passing `Watford Springs'. Keep on footpath, and go straight on at crossroads. Past school on LHS and turn left into wide alleyway just before first detached house. Right into Wiggenhall Road, left into Farraline Road, and left again into Vicarage Road. Last Midweek Trains: Call (0345) 484 950.

FROM UNDERGROUND STATION (Watford, Metropolitan Line, in what London Underground describes as `Beyond the Zones'!): 1.0 mile.

By foot: Turn right out of station and right again round station building. Down steps by taxi kiosk and turn right through car park into Station Approach. After 0.6 miles cross main road into Hagden Lane, and then branch left into Queens Avenue. Straight on at junction, and road becomes Vicarage Road.

BY BUS: Nos. 7, 10 and 11 run from Market Street in the town centre to Vicarage Road.
