Ricky takes the Greek out

It was cold and it was wet. Not easy to play in and not much fun to watch in either.

Bit of a changed team due to suspensions and old legs. McKinlay and Ferdinand had to have a rest on the bench for being old, and with Walker and Elliott suspended. Micky had to recall Matt Heath from Stockport to play in front of Danny Coyne in goal. They'd not seen each other for months never mind played in the same team...would it be a nightmare?

Looked like it could be as Bolton started strongly with Djorkaeff forcing us to clear practically off the line after only 5 minutes. Coyne had us worried when he fumbled a slippy ball but he managed to recover it before Giannakopolous (from now know as The Greek cos it's easier) could pounce.

City then got their act together and Ben Thatcher nearly scored in the 11th minute...hitting the post. The sobs were from us as we had £1 on him to score first...80/1 on www.eurobet.co.uk. Have a go more often at those odds Snatch, for gawd's sake!

Coyne then had us worried again when a poor throw gave Nolan a chance, and some of his kicking wasn't as good as Walker's, but so far so good considering the conditions and mix and match defence, and he had a clean sheet.

Down at the other end conditions were also making it tricky for Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen too. He tried a clearance but slipped and Bent reacted the faster of the two to curl a shot past the Bolton goalie. 1-0 City.

Bolton tried to pull level, including a fancy bicycle kick by Jorkaeff but it didn't test Coyne too much. Leicester, thankfully have learnt not to sit back, and we looked quite positive going forward.

Unfortunately we didn't look quite so positive at the back.A Djorkaeff free-kick in the 35th minute had the usual effect of City defenders standing around in clumps looking confused. N'Gotty pounced on it and it may have taken a deflection off poor Matt Heath on the way in. Bugger. Micky really needs to work on the defence when he hasn't got his first choice back 4 out there. They fall apart far too easily.

Dickov then needed quite bit of treatment after a high challenge from Campo, who only got a yellow and should have been off. Like his hair.

There were a few chances at either end, with Djorkaeff firing a shot high over the crossbar, and Jaaskelainen having to make a good save from Bent two minutes before half time.

Dickov and Campo continued their "discussion" as they left the pitch. They seemed to have hit it off very well and had lots to talk about.

The end to end chances continued after the break, with Bent doing most of the running for City. It was Bolton who finally got one to go in...Djorkaeff passing to Campo 20 yards out, who put a low shot past Danny Coyne. Hmmm. From 1-0 up to 2-1 down. Not good. And it was still bloody cold and wet.

It nearly got worse as Bolton yelled for a penalty in the 63rd minute. Ricky Scimeca looked to have brought down Davies with a trip in the box. Much to Sam Allardyce's anger referee Neale Barry didn't give it. Phew.

Bolton continued to press and it looked like they were more likely to score again, with The Greek this time trying a overhead kick. Coyne did well to punch it away.

Pedersen came on for The Greek to help commentators out everywhere and immediately went looking for a goal, just firing wide.

Dickov was making more of an impact in the arguing stakes this week than in the penalty area so Micky wheeled out the old man instead of the rantng Scot, and Sir Les Ferdinand came on to save the day. With 3 minutes left he nearly scored, causing agony for the City fans who thought it wasn't going to be their day. But in injury time he rose to greet a Muzzy corner at last and sent the Foxes fans home happy for once with a Sir Les classy header! About time we nicked something in extra time instead of throwing it away!

The City fans drove down the M6 hearing that poor old spurs were now below us. Doesn't that feel just right. Pleat out ...?
