This match review is brought to you in partnership with a Ginsters' prawn sandwich

Wolves at home, City desperately needing 3 points, Wolves desperately needing the 3 points.

Birch came out before the game to gee the crowd up. He asked the fans to especially get behind Ian Walker, reminding us it was him that had pretty much got us promoted last year. The fans responded and gave Ian a raptorous welcome.

This soon turned to boos as Wolves decided to play towards the North stand.

City had Thatcher missing through suspension, but Muzzy Izzet was back at last in midfield. They started the brighter of the two teams and dominated the first half. Having Muzzy back, despite him not being match fit and holding back a little, still made us look a lot more creative.

City had plenty of gos on goal, but they were either not powerful enough or Paul Jones, the Wolves goalie, blocked them well. Scowy did his usual of missing a header, but Freund and Izzet bolstered our attack from midfield with two good shots that were saved.

City fans were left wondering how the damn ball had stayed out after about half an hour when a Guppy cross found Dickov. Dickov's header backwards looped into the goal...but Naylor somehowtwisted and managed to hook the ball off the line.

Walker only had one save to make in the first half, but what a save it was. He flew through the air to his left to stop Miller's shot with one hand. Walker at his best.

Things got a bit handbaggy as the ongoing battle between Dickov and Rae boiled over. The two heated wee Scotsmen had been arguing all game, and it ended in a clash of heads off the ball. Rae made a meal of it and went down clutching his head as if dead, but City fans cringed as they thought Dickov would get a red card. Thankfully Jeff Winter was having a good game up till then and common sense prevailed. He let the game continue and had a word with them later.

City fans were again on their feet just before half time as a diving Guppy header hit the post.

Half time saw Birch wheel out Jimmy Harrison and Johnny King who played against Wolves in the 1949 cup final. They talked sense when they said that City needed to get control of the ball.

The second half wasn't so good. Wolves had a lot more of the play, and City didn't have as many chances. Matt Heath was called upon several times and didn't let us down at all, having an excellent game.

Sir Les came on to replace Scowy with 20 minutes to go, but didn't make his usual impact, only giving Jones one save to make.

City fans were getting nervous towards the end. Surely we wouldn't throw it away now? Thankfully we defended well, but blew winning it by wasting a couple of set pieces near the end, and then saw Guppy miss a perfect winner in the dying minutes. He can'r dive and head a ball!

0-0 and a very scrappy game with a lot of mistakes. Not a good result, but still not relegated yet. And we saw just how bad Wolves can be too.
