This match review is brought to you in partnership with a Ginsters' pork pie.

Oh well, Before Monday we probably weren't too hopeful of points against Liverpool, so a loss wasn't a huge surprise. But at least we got a goal, played half decent at times and made them uneasy for the last couple of minutes!

An unchanged line up for City didn't last long as Hignett stretched for a ball that was running out and got up clutching his hamstring. Enter Jordan Stewart after only 7 minutes.

Liverpool had the best of the first half and were close to going ahead after 17 minutes. Walker made the first of several great saves, stopping an Owen shot with his feet and watching the ball bounce into his hands rather than into the net. He grinned and shook his head at both his own team mates and the Liverpool fans behind him in disbelief.

A couple of minutes later he wasn't smiling though. A mess in the goalmouth saw bodies sprawling all over with Taggart and Thatcher in the thick of it. Owen flailed around and didn't get a pen but when Smicer went down as well Mr Halsey pointed to the spot. Taggs didn't seem too impressed but knew better than to argue.

Owen stepped up...1-0.

Walker was then kept busy with various attacks from Liverpool. He and the defence worked their socks off and he was obviously enjoying himself. Our midfield and strikers meanwhile were no-where to be seen. Nalis didn't get much chance to spray it round and was still a little slow on occasions, and Jordan Stewart was lethargic and did nothing.

A City penalty claim was of course turned down as Gerrard looked to have hugged Bent to death before throwing him on the floor.

Leicester started to get back more into the game, and by the second half started to have loads more possession but couldn't finish or do anything much in the box. Muzzy Izzet started to play out of his skin in the secoind half, almost single handedly.

Jordan Stewart went off (apparently witha bad back which explains the dull performance) and on came Brian Deane

It didn't help, as on 74 minutes Owen chased a Kewell (moaned all game) chip into the box, turned it back for Diouf, who drilled in a low shot that Heskey beuatifully deflected past Walker. Em, how could you?

Micky stuck Scimeca on, and too late to really make a difference City managed to pull a goal back in the 90th minute, Marcus Bent getting his first for us with a lovely strike from 18 yards out.

City fans screamed the lads on for the next two minutes stoppage time and Liverpool panicked as we wona freekick on the edge of the box, but they got the ball back and it was too late to snatch the draw.

Still, not a bad performance in places and another game with no cards picked up which is good news.
