I got
home, had an awkward conversion with my neighbour about a sand pit
he has put in our communal backyard. I successfully persuaded him
to move it to another part of the yard, phoned my Dad in Skeggy
who said you've got 20 minutes to get to the pub to watch the boys.
Let me write this side down before I forget: Walker, Curtis, Sinclair,
Taggart, Thatcher, Hignett, Izzett, Nalis, Scowcroft, Bent and Dickov.
Not forgetting Deane, Stewart and Impey.
I gets to the Vic in Keighley where, surprisingly, I am the only
Leicester fan. But I must say, the Leeds support was not as vocal
as I would have expected despite the number of Whyte & Mackay
tops on show.
I think Stevie Claridge got it about right, Leeds played well for
the first ten minutes. But when Nalis scored that goal....
Then Dickov got that goal.....
Taggart nearly gets a brace....
Thatcher nearly gets a hat trick...
What is going on? I have seen Cottee score in the dying minutes
at Elland Road to give us 3 points when Leeds were just about to
nab Martin O'Neill. I've seen Deane score two on his Foxes debut
(?) to give us an undeserving draw. I've borne the brunt of that
6-0 defeat. I have even seen us lose 4-1 at Valley Parade! I concluded
after the Villa debacle and Leeds's own start to the season that
we were not in with a shout. Oh Mickey! Please forgive me! I did
not Keep the Faith!
I have died and gone to heaven. Football was on it's last legs.
Corruption, cheating, poor refereeing, loans between clubs in the
same division all abound but then this...
Leicester have had three sendings off in the first four games (one
through poor reffing, one through a bloke who decided he doesn't
want to play for us anymore and one through Alan Rodgers being a
prat). In this game we didn't even get a booking!
People have said where will the goals come from? Excuse me? Did
you see those goals?
I will always treasure these moments. We have Liverpool and Manchester
United next and I feel that anything can happen! I look at the David
Blaine/Emile Heskey joke and think Emile Winston Ivanhoe, you should
have stayed where you were appreciated and where your skills were
allowed to flourish. But now we have Dickov, Bent, Deane, Scowcroft,
Tricky Trev, Crafty Craig, the new Lilly, even Taggart and Thatcher!
Most importantly, the ghost of Martin has been laid to rest. Mickey
IS king and Corky just IS.
I will love you and leave you. I have had a few bevvies and have
declared my allegiance to those dejected Keighley- Leeds types.
But I didn't gloat. That joy comes tomorrow when I return to work
to face those mournful faces who really wish I would go away and
leave them in their miserable footballing myre.
