2,000 City fans were out in force in Brum on Satutrday to support their club regardless of the La Manga incident. The fans were in good spirits and voice, and ready for all the taunts that were likely to come their way....and were very surprised to get very little thrown at them.

There were huge over the top police numbers, and a huge over the top media circus.

The City players got a raptorous welcome from the City faithful who waved huge Keep the Faith and Innocent flags.

There were some boos from the Brum lot, and a couple of chants including "Dickov's going down" but on the whole very little. The papers that reported constant barracking throughout the game were obviously not there. The Brum lot were very subdued indeed.

Steve Guppy managed to pull something in the warm up so Micky had to swop the team with only 15 mins to go, throwing Trev Benjamin on the left.

It wasn't a particularly pretty game, but City showed 110% commitment and professionalism and did the fans proud.

Unlike the West Midlands police who yet again were over the top miserable trouble inciting buggers. They threw a Leicester fan out behind us for standing up and yelling at Sav for diving for gawd's sake. It all kicked off as we all stood up for the guy as they manhandled him. Shoddy.

Brum had the best of the first half, but never really threatened. None of them had their shooting boots on. Shots were either feeble and gathered easily by Walker, or put wide. Our defence coped well, with Muzzy getting back regularly to help out.

The second half saw a bit more attacking play from City and after 54 minutes a nice move saw Tricky Trev win a header (Eh?! Did he learn that at Brighton then?- Ed), knock it down to Muzzy who slipped it across the goal line to the waiting Sir Les to tap in.

You would have thought we'd won the cup. The City fans went nuts. The players went nuts. They all piled down in front of us hugging Les and urging us on. Fantastic.

The goal put a rocket up Brum and they started to show a bit more of what they were capable of and had a lot of possession. Our defence held steady, sometimes through desperation rather than skill, and their poor finishing left us clinging onto a lead.

Sav got more and more ratty with the ref, who was pretty poor for both teams. Gave us bugger all and blew up for stupid stuff.

As Brum missed another sitter the City fans started chanting "You couldn't score in la Manga!".

The last 10 minutes were agony, the 3 minutes stoppage time desperate as we all stopped breathing. That final whistle set off a party atmosphere we've not seen for some time.

The players rushed over to applaud the fans and we all went crazy together. Freund nearly floored Micky jumping on him before coming over to us. Guppy went and geed up the crowd...not noticing at first they were in the Brum bit. Thatch came and snarled at us all and got a great cheer, and Jingle Bells rang out loud and proud.

They were all man of the match for this game. Muzzy was superb, and Freund especially showed that he is without a doubt in the Foxes Never Quit camp already. Despite the revelations about him in La Manga he was an absolute pro today and led by example, as did Sir Les.

And the players showed that the win was for the fans, and restored some pride in our club.
