This match review is brought to you in partnership with a Ginsters' pork pie.

The signs on the ticket office proclaimed the Grimsby & F"£$%^ game sold out. Grimsby, a sell out?! Sounds wierd eh?

The packed stadium raised their eyebrows together as the team was announced. A place for Chris O'Grady, the U-17 strker, on the bench. Good news that there are more youngsters coming through.

Micky started with Big Trev and Scowy up front in Deane, McKinlay and Dickov's absence, and there was a return for Rogers and a place for Summerbee, with Callum Davidson in midfield.

The guy with the horn heralded the introduction of the teams playing the Post Horn Gallop live and got the crowd going.

City started the most lively and caused Grimsby some early scares. After only three minutes Trev had a good chance in front of goal. The ball was in the wrong place for him though and instead of heading towards goal he tried a spectacular overhead kick. Didn't quite come off!

City were constantly up the Grimsby end but we really missed Dickov's nippy runs and hounding of defenders in the first half. Trev had a couple of other efforts and chances and Jordan Stewart got forward several times too.

A great downward Scowy header missed Trev by an inch or so. Trev then missed an almost open goal. Having beaten the keeper it went a few inches wide to the frustration of all. At least Trev was getting in there and having shots.

The Grimsby goalie, Coyne, also tipped a Jordan Stewart 25 yarder round the post. The only real Grimsby challenge came after 10 minutes when former City player Stuart Campbell made a run but came up against Gerry Taggart.

Campbell came to take a corner in the South East corner and the Kop applauded him generously. Then booed him as he got into a fight with first Rogers and then Taggart! Alan Rogers managed to get in a right strop and get himself a yellow card, but didn't really have too much to do in the game and had an ok performance upon his return from injury.

It really wasn't the best of first halves, but City were doing what they had to do. Surely it would only be a matter of time before we made the break through in the second half. The City fans were buoyed up when the scoreflash scrolled across the scoreboard saying Sheff Utd were losing at Palace.

The teams came back out in the second half to the Post Horn Gallop again and with no changes. Grimsby had a reasonable spell for the first 10 minutes but didn't look like they were going to get through the City defence.

Eventually City made the breakthrough to the relief of us all. Scowy controlled a ball superbly on the edge of the box and lobbed it to Trev who met it with a thunderous header from a few yards out. Great goal. Off he went to celebrate with the Kop. They've turned the boy into a striker. The City fans still can't quite believe it and still sing his name with laughs and irony, but the lad has worked his socks off this season and is starting to deliver. His confidence is sky high and it's making a real difference to his game. Good stuff.

Ten minutes later Stewart managed to race away and the linesman didn't flag to the complaints of the Grimsby players. He was clear on goal, all the time in the world, just the goalie to beat. And he hesitated. Too much time to think about it and he managed to kick it straight at the keeper. Coyne could only blcok though and as City fans were groaning in frustration and sitting back down, the ball ricocheted back out off Coyne, and Callum Davidson, following up beautifully in text book style, wellied the ball into the back of the net and went nuts in front of the Kop.

The wave started round the stadium and the City fans relaxed. Grimsby only really gave us one scare after that when they got the ball in the net in the 83rd minute after three attempts on goal in quick succession but Livingstone's effort was ruled out for offside.

City fans were pleased to see both Tommy Wright and Chris O'Grady get on the pitch for the last few minutes.

Another 3 points, Utd only drew and we managed reasonably confortably in the end despite injuries and suspensions.
