After
what seems like absolutely ages it's now almost time to
dust down that City Shirt, get out the brand new season
ticket (mines a funny silver colour this season) and get
your self down to Filbert Street for the opening game of
the season against Bolton Wanderers.
Make
no mistake though, this game will be no easy run out to
get us all into the swing ng of things. Even though Bolton
are the new boys (again), City have some serious points
to prove.
Even
though City had an excellent start to last season and even
managed to lead the Premiership at one point it all went
down hill in the latter part of the season and that is now
some doubt as to whether City are the force they once were.
Dedicated
fans who went to pre-season games will have seen some bright
flashes to take heart with. Ade's new toned look (we hear
he was jealous of Ste), Scowcrofts first ever goal in a
City shirt and Ian Walkers obvious class in goal. Those
that arn't so dedicated and only managed to make the Florintina
game will also have been treated to some delights such as
Sturridge's hat trick and Dennis Wise's ability to rule
the midfield.
Although
Steve Guppy has departed for pastures Greener, Celtic Green
to be precise, at the time of writing it now looks like
Matt Elliott will almost definitely sign a new contract.
That should atleast keep the worry warts off of Taylor's
back for the first 5 minutes on Saturday.
Talking
of Taylor, it has to be said that there are still many questions
being asked about him. While FFS's policy on the issue has
always been "Whatever is good for the club", this
season I'm going to take a new stance on the issue. Basically
it goes like this, Taylor is only as good as his last result.
Which at the minute makes Taylor about as good as a half
eaten bowl of Cheerios
City
desperately need a good start to silence the critics (as
if shutting them up is possible) and prove that the famous
team spirit has not deserted us.
As
far as Bolton is concerned this is a great chance for them
to take an early scalp in their quest for survival. They
have waited a long time to get back into the Premiership
and they arn't likely to give up without a fight meaning
that they will probably come out with all guns blazing and
two of those guns will be known by City fans well. Mike
Whitlow and Ian Marshall are both expected to play this
weekend and FFS predicts a standing ovation for the man
they call "The Farmer".
But
you don't want this game hyping up, it doesn't\t need it.
We've all been deprived for the last few months. We just
want to get it on.
As
far as the City team is concerned we should see only one
of the new boys, Dennis Wise, tomorrow with Scowcroft struggling
with a knee injury and Ian Walker under suspension courtesy
of a Spurs reserve match. The rest of the team is injury
free at the minute so expect to see the usual suspects in
selected in what FFS believes will be a low scoring game.
