Leicester 2 Stoke 1 - report PDF Print E-mail

A report on last night's 2-1 win for Leicester, by a guest reporter. If you'd like to write a report on any match please use the link at the to of the page.

It was a minor miracle that we won tonight, even though ours were two cracking goals.  It was a dour affair, with us demonstrating a complete lack of width (no Welsh or Low) and Momo Sylla trying for the most times caught in possession in a single match record.  And Logan insisted on kicking out to Sylla every time, and Sylla was simultaneously going for the least number of headers won in a match record.

Elvis was doing his best to stop Sylla getting either of the records.

First half was dire - we had loads of possession but apart from a couple of long range blasts from Tia-tia-tiatto which almost embarrassed their keeper it was mind-numbing.  Then out of the blue
Fuller lobbed Logan from what looked like an impossible angle and we were a goal down.  We looked a bit more purposeful for a few minutes and Huuuuuuume drove home a loose ball from the edge of the box on the stroke of half-time.

We came out in the second half looking a bit more lively, although quality was still scarce.  Du-du-der-du-Matty-Fry-att came on for Elvis, although didn't really make much more impact.  But Hughes-ey obviously heard me say "Hughes still doesn't impress me" about 30 seconds before he hit a low 30-yard drive into the bottom left hand corner of the net.  Of course at this point we went into time-wasting mode, even though there was still 30 minutes or so left.  Why-oh-why....

We were lucky to escape unscathed, especially since the ref found 5 minutes of stoppage time from somewhere (technically indefensible, although morally we had it coming - every throw-in was taking 30 seconds and every free kick a minute).  But we survived and the 3 points take us into the nose bloodying height of the top half of the table.  But if we are going to stay there we need better quality than was shown tonight - width is the key IMHO.

At 0-0 Stoke were content to sit behind the game and hassle us into a world record of back passes to the keeper, so we maybe had some excuse for the lack of chances.  But especially when we went 2-1 up we should have been driving the victory home, not taking the ball into the corner and making every dead ball last an eternity.
